Getting Started with the Compute Resources

This page assumes that you have no knowledge of Linux and are new to running simulations on a cluster. You can go through the items in order to gain the knowledge necessary to get running.

There are three servers that are important to know about:
submit.che.wisc.edu: where most jobs are typically run
gibbs.che.wisc.edu: for large jobs which cannot be run on submit
boltzmann.che.wisc.edu: for large jobs which cannot be run on submit and require Intel processors
jjd-storage.che.wisc.edu: a storage server with about 600G of space per user

  1. Get an account on the clusters. Currently, you will want to send email to Vladimir Brik or Kyle Hoffmann the system administrators.
  2. Learn the basics of Linux.
  3. Learn the basics of Condor.
  4. Begin developing your skills as a programmer.
